Keeping of the promises is what the essence of one being trusted as well as honored revolves around. Promises are simply nothing else but commitments to do something, and breaking that can otherwise ruin your reputation or relationship.
How does that look when you get into a deal with someone to help them with something and at the last moment you pull out? Most likely, that person would be extremely disappointed and upset, questioning the whole time your reliability and trustworthiness, and they would think twice before offering you help in the future when you asked for it. But if you did everything, which is possible and even impossible carrying out the obligation, in the end your friend will appreciate and reckon on you more.
Of course, much more than just personal relationships, keeping your word is one of the best ways to get ahead in the community; if people know that you can be relied upon, they are much more likely to extend their word and respect to you. This begets other promising opportunities and connections, especially in the professional domain as well.
Sure, there will be those times when something comes up and does not allow the promise to be fulfilled. Most important of all circumstances that come about from this is the need to be honest and forthright. Explain the situation and work together with the other person to see if there is a solution that might work for both of you. Being open and communicative will show trust and respect, even if you are not able to fulfill the initial promise that was agreed upon. So, finally, all about being trusted and respectedᅳwalking the talk. This is how sound relationships, good and strong, are built upon what you instruct, even if the going gets rough. After all, your integrity is put on the line every time you make a promise.
